"The wand chooses the wizard, Mr. Potter. It’s not always clear why. But. I think it is clear that we can expect great things from you, Mr. Potter. After all, he-who-must-not-be-named did great things also. Terrible, yes... but great."
Personally,
I love this quote. Harry has just stepped into the magical world when Ollivander
says this to Harry, and that’s precisely why I love this quote. As a kid, this
quote was amongst my first introduction to the “Grey Area” – good and bad both
and how one should learn to recognise both.
Someone can
achieve something unimaginable and then use it for the wrong purposes, does
that mean we disregard their genius of coming up with the exceptional thing
that no one else could manage in the first place?
There would
be different opinions on this, I know! And I am open to learning them.
But even
now when I read or watch the movie and come across this quote, it’s a reminder
of how brilliant this quote is. And how seamlessly it taught children to know
good and bad and give credit where it is due as well as condemn what is bad.

Glad to connect to your blog!
ReplyDeleteTotally agree, Pooja.
ReplyDeleteI love this quote too.
It reposes faith in Harry Potter's brilliance. When a learned person recognizes our talent and asks us to make the best use of it, it sure is uplifting!
"Only the jeweller knows the worth of a diamond."
I also love that quote, and there are so many things in life that find us besides a wand. You just have to look I think. Thanks for visiting my blog.
ReplyDeleteIt is indeed a meaningful quote.
ReplyDeleteA thought-provoking quote to be sure, metaphorical even.
