Cycling In Mumbai

A few days ago I blogged about why we have stopped doing silly things. Now that the thought had stayed with me for close to a month now, I finally decided to do something about it. I decided to rent a cycle and go cycling in Mumbai.

The first thought was scary; I have not cycled for like 15 years now, what if I have forgotten how to do it?

There way too much traffic in Mumbai, what if I get into an accident?

So I asked a friend to tag along, I told him to ride in front of me so I could just follow him.

Initially, because it was late evening, there was traffic and the ride wasn’t as enjoyable as I wanted it to be. However, as we got closer to 10pm-ish the traffic subsided and it was a dream to ride.

We went all the way from Dadar to Horiman Circle. I personally find the southern part of Mumbai absolutely mesmerising; especially at night when there is less traffic, lesser people and the lights have come on.

The old heritage buildings look stunning, the empty roads add to the beauty. I have always enjoyed going there late at night for a drive, but riding on a cycle with barely any cars around was such a dream.

I realized just changing one aspect of the way we do things can make such a difference. I really wouldn’t mind doing it again – maybe sometime next month.

Have you explored your city in a new way? Let’s chat about it in the comments.

PS: I rented my cycle from Mahim - https://cyclix.in/

  29. Good read. I have been contemplating to rent a bike since years now. This post has motivated me to stop procrastinating and start acting. Indian cities as such are not bicycle friendly and that's scary. The part of the city, I live in is still not so crowded, I guess, I must start this and enjoy cycling before crowds set in. 😊
