A few days ago I blogged about why we have stopped doing silly things. Now that the thought had stayed with me for close to a month now, I finally decided to do something about it. I decided to rent a cycle and go cycling in Mumbai.
The first
thought was scary; I have not cycled for like 15 years now, what if I have
forgotten how to do it?
There way
too much traffic in Mumbai, what if I get into an accident?
So I asked
a friend to tag along, I told him to ride in front of me so I could just follow
him.
Initially, because
it was late evening, there was traffic and the ride wasn’t as enjoyable as I wanted
it to be. However, as we got closer to 10pm-ish the traffic subsided and it was
a dream to ride.
We went all
the way from Dadar to Horiman Circle. I personally find the southern part of Mumbai
absolutely mesmerising; especially at night when there is less traffic, lesser
people and the lights have come on.
The old
heritage buildings look stunning, the empty roads add to the beauty. I have always
enjoyed going there late at night for a drive, but riding on a cycle with
barely any cars around was such a dream.
I realized just
changing one aspect of the way we do things can make such a difference. I really
wouldn’t mind doing it again – maybe sometime next month.
Have you
explored your city in a new way? Let’s chat about it in the comments.
PS: I
rented my cycle from Mahim - https://cyclix.in/

ReplyDeleteI want to go cycling, too, but I'm scared of getting into an accident in heavy traffic. Our roads are not cyclist-friendly at all.

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful experience. Sadly, I do not know how to cycle. But this really sounds like a dream. Hopefully someday. Also, with some people with me.

ReplyDeleteI remember cycling in Bangalore city in my 20s. It was quite tough to do that in the busy city areas. But I loved it all the same in spite of the abuses I received occasionally from auto drivers :)
ReplyDeleteOh cycling is so much fun!! I live in UAE and since the weather is hot most of the year, there is very little scope of cycling. But seeing your video I think I should start it again!!

ReplyDeleteI dont know cycling and your video made me realise how much I am missing out on!
ReplyDeleteGood read. I have been contemplating to rent a bike since years now. This post has motivated me to stop procrastinating and start acting. Indian cities as such are not bicycle friendly and that's scary. The part of the city, I live in is still not so crowded, I guess, I must start this and enjoy cycling before crowds set in. 😊
ReplyDeleteThis sounds like fun. I am more of a walking person . Make me walk, and I can go on. But I guess to each his own.

Wow...sounds very nice...I cycle around my apartment every once in a while...if you do not want the nasty traffic - you can try the early mornings too...
ReplyDeleteI am sure it was a fun ride. I also left cycling in 2008 after completing my PG course. Else it used to be my friend to accompany me for school and college. I will surely try it again whenever next I visit my parents.
ReplyDeleteIm too chicken to go cycling around the city. I prefer doing it within the complex itself. I was doing it. Have to continue.
ReplyDeleteI love cycling, I do it all the time.
ReplyDeleteI have to try cycling. I get bored of cardio workouts so I guess cycling on the roads should be interesting and more fun form of cardio workout.
ReplyDeleteI love cycling and do it very often. But yeah I would definitely find cycling in Mumbai to be quite scary at first. Hats off of to you for finding a new way to explore the city :).
ReplyDeleteWow Pooja. This looks so enjoyable and your video is fulfulling to watch. Yes, it's been years we have done something crazy and found happiness in little things around.
ReplyDeleteI've never explored in this way but sounds interesting and wld like to try.
ReplyDeleteCycling is great activity to keep oneself fit. And in Mumbai, if you want to reach early then cycle is better option.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds like so much fun. It looks so enjoyable!! :)
ReplyDeleteI recently saw rental cycles in BKC and I really wanted to try it. Your post further inspired me to go ahead and do it.
ReplyDeleteI am scared to get on two wheelers let alone cycle in heavy traffic. But cycling in the small towns is fun.
ReplyDeleteWow! Sounds like you had fun
ReplyDeleteCycling is fun! I have also started it again after a long long gap of more than one decade...
ReplyDeleteCycling is something I started during pandemic and of late have put it on backburner due to office and work related challenges.. Hope to restart soon and be regular at it...

ReplyDeleteFor me, cycling was fun during my school days. But now it's not that easy. Since 2019 I used to go to near by place by cycle to click some good <a href="https://www.gapuphotography.com>photos</a>, but this COVID19 has changed lots of things now.
ReplyDeleteMy friends and I do cycling once a week around the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur. We do it in the wee hours of Sunday morning when motorist are still dreamland and office folks do not need to work. There is a vibrant cycling community here.
ReplyDeleteDo you cycle now? I started last year after a gap of almost 50 years! Now I cycle for an hour every morning and I enjoy it!
