In A New York Minute – Book Review

Started reading this one because I needed a quick romcom-ish book, and while the premise is interesting it soon starts following the same old tropes of romance stories.

Honestly, I had picked up a book from the romcom, chick-lit-ish genre after ages! I don’t even remember which one was the last one. Which is exactly why I was looking for something new, a fresh take, perhaps? But the book disappointed.

Having said that, ‘In a hot new York minute’ is not a bad book, it’s just nothing new.

The story is predictable, there is only one stress point (climax, if I may say) which is so hastily written that when the resolution finally comes, it is almost unnecessary. The book would have been 50 pages shorter towards the end and still not have an impact on the entire reading experience.

Have you read any nice book recently? Suggest me a nice read please.

  1. I liked In a New York Minute a bit more than you did, but I can see your points.

  2. I would suggest 2 books. Can you keep a secret? By Sofie Kinsella. Bet Me by Jennifer Crusie.

  3. The last book that I enjoyed was Anxious People..by Fredrick Backman, I am assuming you have read it because you are a lot into reading. :) It's been a while I have not read a nice romcom either. My TBR pile does not have any either. Currently reading Samir Soni's My Experiments with Silence. Atomic Habits is next.

  4. I don't read romcom. Too old for that 😊

  5. For a good romcom series I would suggest The Love Cliche series or The Graham Brothers by Emma St. Clair (although the Love Cliche series has the Graham brothers in them, so maybe just start there).

  6. It is been a long time since I picked up a book. Like the colours used in the cover of this book.

  7. Not a title or author I'm familiar with, but I'd second anything by Jennifer Crusie as a good read :)

  12. It can be hard to enjoy a book when it's predictable and drawn out. I currently don't have any recommendations, but I hope you find something soon! Thank you for sharing your honest review!

  13. I'm sorry this book didn't work for you. My favorite read this year is The Midnight Library by Matt Haig. I definitely recommend it. It's very creative and unique, I think.

  16. This same old plot retold in a new way happens with mysteries and historical fictions I read too... But once in a while we land up with a gem of a book, so it's worth going through all for those.

    1. So true, sometimes we just chance upon a book which is too good. Worth taking the risk for sure
