Heeramandi: An Over Thought Out Review

Sail under the Bandra Worli Sea Link with Mumbai Maiden

The reason why I love Mumbai so much is that the city never stops surprising you. The city has so much to offer – culture, history, tradition, fast paced life, the sea, the traffic, the pollution and the spirit to never stop living your life.

Every couple of months if not every couple of weeks, there is something happening in the city that makes you want to look forward to the weekend. You spend the weekend exploring and relaxing and doing something that will help you recharge for the week coming up.

I recently spent my Saturday evening, doing just that. I cruise ship ride just off the Mahim coast. Mumbai Maiden was launched recently in collaboration with Maharashtra Tourism, it is the perfect way to bring in your weekend and recharge yourself for the week to come.

The ship sails from under the Bandra – Worli sea link giving you a beautiful view of the underbelly of this iconic structure and the providing with you a stunning view of the Mumbai Skyline. The ship then sails along the Mumbai coastline. You can get onboard the cruise from Bandra Jetty; a speed boat will take you to Mumbai Maiden which is anchored in the sea.

The ship is an initiative by SSR Marine Services, a private marine company in joint collaboration with Maharashtra Tourism Development Corporation (MTDC).

The ship has two levels and the upper deck, which can easily accommodate 285 passengers plus a 15 member crew across its various levels.

It has a restaurant at the ground level of the ship to handle any F&B requirement.   Besides this the ship has a banquet hall at the 2nd level which can be available for hosting events, the Upper deck would be the focal point where people get to enjoy the panoramic view of the shoreline and sea beyond.

It has all the amenities for the comfort of a passenger with well trained staff and equipment to oversee the safety and security onboard.

The ship is spacious and great for a get together or a party or even an office team outing / bonding session. As the sun sets, the ship cruises into the city waters, the wind in your hair and the soothing breeze is enough to calm anyone down.

I boarded the speed boat from Bandra jetty and ventured towards Mumbai Maiden which was anchored in the sea, once onboard, I went around the ship once quickly and somehow stumbled into the main control room, the captain was nice enough to invite me in and explain me the various aspects of sailing a ship and the radar and the safety precautions.

After an informative session with the captain, I went to the upper deck which is so spacious; it has enough seating arrangements as well. I quickly grabbed a seat and lounged there with some coffee.

The sea is so calming that I didn’t wish to get off the ship. Sitting there with a bustling city on one side and the calm and vast ocean on the other side, sipping on my coffee and reflecting on my thoughts was indeed bliss.
